• (12 )8 x 11 colored card stock individually numbered 1 – 12
• (12) miniature cards individually numbered 1 – 12

Instructions:

First, divide your class into 2 teams.  The 2 teams should be single file lines facing you. Stand in front of the 2 lines holding the flash cards with number side facing them.  Explain that they will be doing mental math. You will pull a number card from the back of your stack and place in front of the stack facing them. For example, you pull number card 9 and say “subtract 4” . Only the first person in front of each line gets to answer. The first one who gets the answer correct, which in this case (5), goes in the back of their respective line. The first team that has their initial starter back to the front of the line – wins!
